Windows Vista includes a “Share” button on the explorer toolbar, but it doesn’t work the way people used to XP/Win2k expect it to. Instead it pops up a wizard to make things “easier”.

By default, this share button will not let you choose the name of the shared folder. Even more annoying, sharing a folder within your user directory will have a weird share name like \\computer\Users\geek\Contacts, which is much more difficult to remember.

If you want to share folders the way you used to on Windows XP, simply right-click the folder, and choose the Properties option.

Now choose the Advanced Sharing button.

Now you should be able to check the box “Share this folder”, and choose a share name, which will be accessible from \\computer\myshare, for example.

You can also click the Permissions button if you want to allow write access to this share, or allow access to only a particular user.

Do you think setting up ad hoc wireless network in Windows Vista is difficult? No no! It’s not difficult.. By the way, in case you need to refresh your memory, this ad hoc network is the network with the computers connected wirelessly and directly without having wireless router or access point. It’s peer to peer network.

Usually you can have this type of network temporary to share documents in a meeting, play multiplayer game or share Internet connection with friends. The only drawback of this network is its limited wireless range coverage with each connected computer is expected to be located closely. For having better wireless coverage, get a wireless router or access point.

Let say you have 3 computers and each is equipped with wireless adapter, you can set up ad hoc wireless on one of the compute, and let say this is host computer. Here is the IP and netmask I will assign to each wireless adapter, check here on configuring IP and netmask on wireless adapter if you are not sure how to do it. Please note you do not need to assign gateway IP and DNS since this is peer-to-peer network.

Host Computer:
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Note: If you have Internet Connection Sharing enabled on host computer, you can just set each client computer to obtain an IP address automatically, then these computers should be able to access Internet. I will explain more later in other article.

Host Computer Configuration:

Here is the way you configure ad hoc wireless setting on host computer, so that other computers can connect to it wirelessly and directly:

1) Go to Start and right click on Network and then click Properties.

2) Network and Sharing Center window will appear, click on Set up a connection or network.

Note: The other way to do it is by going to Start -> Connect To -> click on Set up a connection or network.

3) Set up a connection or network window will appear, select Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network option, then click Next.

4) Set up a wireless ad hoc network window will appear, this window will briefly explain to you what is ad hoc wireless network. Click Next after the reading.

5) On this wireless network configuration window, you can type in the network name (SSID), security type (encryption) and security key. You can set up the ad hoc connection without the authentication first, and then enable the encryption (WEP, WPA2, etc) once it worked. Don’t forget to enable the encryption, if not every nearby computer can connect to this network (I don’t think you want this to happen). Click Next again.

Note: You can click Save this network to save it as wireless network profile. If not, this network setting will not be saved and you need to recreate it next time.

6) The next window will tell you that the ad hoc network is ready to use with connection setting. Click Close to finish the setup.

7) Back to you Network and Sharing Center, click on Manage Wireless networks, you will see the new created ad-hoc network and it's ready to be connected.

Note: Please note this ad-hoc is tagged as Unsecured since there is no encryption enabled, so don’t forget to enable the encryption once it worked.

Client Computer Configuration:

You can then use other client computers to connect to the ad hoc wireless network.

1) Go to Start and click on Connect to.

2) Connect to a network window will appear. This window will show all available connections, which are dial-up, VPN and wireless connections, but your focus is on ad hoc wireless connection. Scroll down the list and select the ad-hoc wireless network and click Connect button.

Note: You will be prompted if you connect to unsecured wireless network, click Connect Anyway to connect for this case.

3) Once you get connected, you will see following message. You can then tick on Save this network and Close the window. You can then ping other computers to ensure it's working. If you are interested, let's learn more about Windows Vista networking here!

• Untuk menghubungkan ke Internet, satu komputer selalu memerlukan sambungan jaringan kabel.

Untuk menghubungkan komputer ke Internet menggunakan jaringan nirkabel ad hoc, ikuti langkah-langkah berikut (dijelaskan secara lebih rinci nanti dalam artikel ini):

1. Aktifkan Internet Connection Sharing pada komputer yang terhubung internet. Anda dapat melewatkan langkah ini jika anda tidak perlu mengakses Web.
2. Mengatur jaringan nirkabel ad hoc pada komputer yang terhubung internet.
3. Tambahkan komputer Anda yang lain ke jaringan nirkabel.

Cara mengaktifkan Internet Connection Sharing

Pada jaringan nirkabel dengan router, router memiliki tugas penting forwarding komunikasi dari komputer di jaringan ke Internet. Pada jaringan ad hoc, Anda harus menetapkan satu komputer untuk melayani peran ini. Komputer Anda harus memiliki koneksi kabel ke Internet, dan harus ditinggalkan di bila ingin dapat menggunakan komputer Anda yang lain.
Cara mengatur komputer pertama

Mengatur ad hoc jaringan nirkabel yang memungkinkan komputer untuk berbagi sebuah koneksi internet tanpa router

1. Jika perlu, pasang adapter jaringan nirkabel
2. Klik Mulai, kemudian klik Control Panel.
3. Pilih kategori di bawah, klik Network dan Internet Connections
4. Di bawah atau pilih icon Control Panel, klik Network Connections.
5. Klik-kanan koneksi jaringan nirkabel Anda, kemudian klik Properties.
6. Pada Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box, klik tab Wireless Networks.
7. Pada tab Wireless Networks, di bawah jaringan yang dipilih, klik ADD.
8. Pada jaringan Wireless properti kotak dialog, pada tab Asosiasi, ketik nama jaringan wireless ad hoc di Jaringan nama (SSID) kotak (ditampilkan pada langkah 10). Misalnya, Anda dapat memberikan nama jaringan nirkabel Anda NETKOM.
9. Kosongkan Kunci disediakan untuk saya secara otomatis memeriksa dan memilih kotak ini adalah sebuah komputer-ke-komputer (ad hoc) network check box.
10. Buatlah password dengan 13-digit dalam kedua-kunci network. Untuk keamanan terbaik, gunakan kombinasi huruf, angka, dan tanda baca. Kemudian klik OK
11. Klik OK lagi untuk menyimpan perubahan

Cara mengatur tambahan komputer

Jika komputer Anda ingin menambahkan Anda ke jaringan tidak ada built-in dukungan jaringan nirkabel, pasang adapter jaringan nirkabelnya.

Windows XP secara otomatis mendeteksi dan adapter baru akan memberitahu Anda bahwa ia menemukan jaringan nirkabel.

Sekarang komputer Anda terhubung ke jaringan nirkabel Anda

Catatan: Langkah-langkah ditas hanya berlaku jika Anda menggunakan Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). Jika Anda belum terinstal SP2, kunjungi Microsoft Update untuk menginstalnya sebelum terhubung ke jaringan ad hoc.

1. Klik kanan ikon Jaringan Nirkabel di sudut kanan bawah layar Anda, kemudian klik View Available Wireless Networks. Catatan: Jika Anda menemui masalah, jangan takut untuk menanyakannya ke produsen merk adapter yang anda gunakan tersebut untuk membantu masalah anda.
2. Jendela The Wireless Network Connection akan muncul dan menampilkan jaringan nirkabel Anda terdaftar dengan SSID yang anda pilih. Jika Anda tidak melihat jaringan anda, klik Refresh Jaringan Daftar di sudut kiri atas. Klik jaringan Anda, kemudian klik Connect di sudut kanan bawah.
3. Windows XP akan meminta anda untuk memasukkan kunci password, kemudian klik Connect.

Windows XP akan menunjukkan signal strength yang terhubung ke jaringan anda. Setelah Anda terhubung, Anda dapat menutup jendela Wireless Network Connection.

Ulangi tiga langkah diatas pada setiap komputer yang akan terhubung ke jaringan nirkabel ad hoc.

Ad-hoc Wireless Networks dan IPv 6

Apabila kita punya laptop ber-wifi, dan apabila kita ingin shering data dari laptop kita ke lapton teman kita yang satunya lagi. Maka kita dapat menggunakan Adhoc wireless network yang berjalan pada Windows XP SP 2 atau windows vista.

Sebagai langkah pertama kita, pastikan laptop kita wifinya dalam kondisi menyala atau aktif.

Langkah kedua kita aktifkan wireless ad-hoc pada laptop kita.

• Masuk ke Start → control panel → network connection, lalu klik kanan pada interface Ethernet kita yang tekonek internet dan pilih properties.
• Masuk ke advance tab dan pilih allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection., Check list pada boxnya . Unchecklist pada box allow other network users to control or disable this sharred network connection.
• Klik OK

Langkah ketiga, membuat koneksi adhoc wireless network.

• Masuk ke Start → control panel → network connection
• Klik kanan di bagian interface wireless yang akan menjadi down link, lalu pilih properties
• Masuk ke tab wireless networks, lalu pada dialog box preferred networks klik add
• Masuk ke association tab lalu ketik nama SSID dari wireless anda, NGISING-NET
• Bagian yang penting, pastikan anda check list box pada bagian this is computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network dan uncheck list box this key provided for me automatically
• Pada bagian Network Authentication pilih Open, dan pada bagian Data encryption pilih mode WEP, namun bila anda merasa tidak perlu tinggal pilih disabled
• Jika anda menggunakan encryption WEP, maka anda harus mengisi box network key (5/13 karakter), lalu ketik ulang key anda pada box confirm network key
• Klik OK

Selesailah langkah mengeset ICS adhoc wireless network, di laptop teman kita tinggal hidupkan wifinya kemudian cari wifi dengan nama NGISING-NET (tergantung mengesetnya di awal). Tinggal konek ke wifi tersebut dan masukan WEP key yang sudah anda set (jika diset di awal).

IPv 6

Sebelum kita to the point ke proses konfigurasi IPv6.. ada baiknya kita mengetahui jenis Operating System yang kita gunakan (khususnya bila kita menggunakan windows XP). Windows XP mempunyai beberapa versi yang di antaranya adalah Windows XP Service Pack 1, dan Windows XP Service Pack 2. Untuk mengetahui tipe Operating System yang digunakan komputer kita,
klik kanan pada My Computer dari menu Start Anda, lalu pilih Properties.
Di situ Anda dapat melihat spesifikasi dari sistem komputer Anda.

Bila Anda menggunakan Windows XP Service Pack 1..
Setelah Anda menginstalasi IPv6 nanti akan muncul pilihan yang di dalamnya mengandung kata2 "developer" "IP version 6" pada Properties dari Interface yang Anda konfigurasi IPv6-nya.

Bila Anda menggunakan Windows XP Service Pack 2..
Setelah Anda menginstalasi IPv6 akan muncul pilihan Microsoft TCP/IP version 6
pada Properties dari Interface yang Anda konfigurasi IPv6-nya.

Misalnya seperti pada gambar di bawah ini:

Untuk tipe sebelum Windows XP Service Pack 1.. saya belum mencobanya.. tetapi, sepertinya Anda bisa menginstalasi IPv6 dalam operating system tersebut sejauh itu Windows XP. (Penulis: Jika Anda mencobanya dan berhasil, mohon memberitahukan melalui comment dari artikel ini, terima kasih).

Nah, berikut ini.. cara-cara untuk menginstalasi IPv6 pada operating system Anda, bila Anda menggunakan OS Windows XP SP1 atau SP2.

Ada 2 macam cara dalam instalasi di Windows XP SP1 dan SP2 (setelah Anda mengkonfigurasi IPv4 Anda bila diperlukan dan setelah komputer/laptop/dll tersambung dengan media lain yang akan anda koneksikan).

Cara pertama (melalui Network Connection):
1. Masuk ke Network Connection dan pilih Properties dari Interface yang akan Anda install IPv6 nya. Anda dapat menemukan Network Connection pada Control Panel atau dari My Network Places.

2. Setelah Anda membuka Properties dari Interface yang akan Anda install IPv6 nya.. Buka tab General, lalu pilih Install, kemudian pilih Protocol, dan pilih Add..

Kemudian pilih Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 (bila Anda menggunakan OS Windows XP Service Pack 2), lalu klik OK.

Cara kedua (melalui Command Prompt):
1. Klik Start --> Run,

2. Ketikkan cmd pada kotak Open, lalu klik OK

3. ketikkan ipv6 install pada layar DOS dari command prompt tersebut, lalu tekan enter.

(Penulis: Jika Anda ingin memastikan apakah IPv6 sudah terinstall atau belum di System Anda melalui command prompt, ketikkan ipconfig pada layar tersebut lalu tekan enter; jika Anda melihat ada IP Address yang memenuhi ciri-ciri dari IPv6, berarti IPv6 sudah terinstall pada system Anda. Jika ingin mengulang syntax, anda bisa menekan panah atas untuk mengcopy paste syntax sebelumnya)

Setelah itu Anda akan melihat adanya pilihan Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 pada Properties dari Interface yang Anda pilih tadi.

Pada Windows Vista, IPv6 sudah terinstall secara otomatis dan dapat anda lihat melalui Properties dari interface pada Network Connection Anda atau dengan memasukkan syntax ipconfig pada comand prompt. Anda dapat mengkonfigurasinya dengan masuk pada properties tersebut dan memilih Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 lalu klik Properties, kemudian Anda bisa mengisikan IP Address, Prefix Length, Default Gateway dan Preferred DNS Server serta Alternated DNS Server bila diperlukan.

Setelah Anda menginstall IPv6, Anda bisa juga menambahkan link IPv6, misalkan untuk LAN atau Ad-hoc. Bila Anda ingin menambahkan link..

Setelah Anda masuk ke Command Prompt, ketikkan

netsh interface ipv6 add address <nama interface> <ip address>

contohnya:
netsh interface ipv6 add address "Local Area Connection" 3ffe:100:200:300::123
atau
netsh interface ipv6 add address "Wireless Network Connection" 3ffe::10:20:0:9ef

(Penulis: mengetikkan syntax dalam command prompt tidak boleh ada kesalahan sedikitpun, karena bila salah, syntax tidak akan dikenali)

Untuk memeriksa apakah koneksi ipv6 Anda benar-benar terhubung, pada layar command prompt ketikkan

ping <ipv6 address Anda>

Contoh: ping 3ffe:100:200:300::123
atau ping 3ffe::10:20:0:9ef

Jadi.. mari kita kembangkan ipv6 yang akan digunakan pada generasi-generasi teknologi koneksi internet mendatang dan mempelajarinya dengan lebih menyenangkan secara praktikal. Toh untuk menguninstall, anda tinggal klik uninstall pada properties interface Anda atau ketik ipv6 uninstall pada layar command prompt Anda. Dan untuk menghapus link ipv6 yang telah Anda buat.. Anda hanya perlu mengetikkan netsh interface ipv6 del address <nama interface> <ipv6 address> pada layar command prompt Anda.

IP Address Allocation

You need to allocate the IP address to each computer that involves in this ad-hoc wireless network. If you have 3 computers, you can simply assign 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3 to each computer with netmask 255.255.255.0. Check how to set IP here if you are not too sure.

Note: If you have Internet Connection Sharing enabled on host computer, you can just set each client computer to obtain an IP address automatically, then these computers should be able to access Internet.

Host Computer Configuration

1) Let’s start with the configuration, here I will choose one computer to start the configuration, right click wireless adapter and then click properties.

Note: Please enable this host computer's ad hoc configuration on ICS host computer if you want to use Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing feature.

2) Wireless Network Connection Properties will appear. Click Wireless Networks tab, here I tick Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. After that click Advanced button.

Note: You can also use the configuration tool provided by wireless adapter manufacturers to configure ad hoc wireless network.

3) Advanced window will appear. Select Computer-to-computer (ad hoc) networks only option. Click Close at last.

Note: Don’t tick Automatically connect to non-preferred networks in order to ease the configuration.

4) After that, click Add to add new ad hoc wireless network.

5) Name your ad hoc network, here I use home-adhoc. Try to use open authentication without encryption first. After tested it works well, only proceed to enable WPA or WEP encryption. Click OK at last.

6) Now you will see your created ad hoc network (PC card icon) in preferred networks list. Wooo.. You have finished configuring this host computer.

Client Computer Configuration

1) On other client computers, you only need to set its wireless adapter to use Windows to configure its network settings and enable Computer-to-computer (ad-hoc) networks only. Simply follow step 2 and 3 on host computer configuration above to get it done.

2) You then right click wireless adapter to view available wireless networks, you will see your ad hoc wireless network, proceed to connect to it. At this stage, you should be able to connect to this ad hoc wireless network!!! Have fun… :o)

ada 4 langkah
1. Jaringan default dari kabel ISP

Jaringan default dari kabel ISP
ISP via tv kabel -> cable modem -> LAN card komputer pertama. pastikan internetnya sudah hidup dan sudah bisa browsing.

Setting windows agar bisa share koneksi
Start -> Programs -> accessories -> Communications -> Network Setup Wizard
Next sampai muncul windows berikut

pilih sesuai petunjuk pada gambar

defaultnya adalah LAN card yang konek ke internet. tinggal next saja sampai selesai. kalau minta di save ke disket di tolak jawab NO dan finish.

pastikan Internet Connection Sharing pada LAN properties pada komputer pertama yang terhubung ke cable modem terpilih.
cek “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection”

Setting IP pada tiap LAN card
Setting LAN card yang ke internet (komputer 1) – default dari teknisinya.
- Obtain an iP address automaticaly
- Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically

Setting LAN card yang menuju Komputer Lain (komputer 1) :
IP Address : 192.168.0.5
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway : Kosongin aja
DNS : Kosongin aja

Setting LAN card pada Komputer Lain (komputer 2,3,4,5,dsb):
IP Address : 192.168.0.10
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway : 192.168.0.5
Prefered DNS server : Samakan dengan DNS pada LAN card yang konek ke internet
Alternate DNS server : Samakan dengan DNS pada LAN card yang konek ke internet

Hubungkan LAN kedua dan silakan browsing
sambungkan LAN card antara komputer 1 dan komputer 2 dengan menggunakan kabel cross. silakan browsing.

bagi yang tidak tau cara setting IP
Start -> Settings -> Control Panels -> Network Connections
Klik kanan -> Properties (pada Local Area Connection)

klik kiri 2x pada LAN card yang konek ke internet

ada tombol detail, disana ada yang namanya DNS servers, itulah DNS dynamic yang diberikan oleh ISP anda.

note:
1. gunakan kabel cross untuk menghubungkan lan card pc1 dan lan card pc ke 2.
2. gunakan kabel straight untuk menghubungkan cable modem dan lan card pc1

ringkasan :
1. pastikan koneksi internet dari ISP sudah jalan.
2. share koneksi pada LAN card pertama. (liat pada bagian Setting windows agar bisa share koneksi)
3. setting IP, subnet mask, gateway dan dns pada tiap LAN card.
4. selamat internet anda sudah di share.
5. jangan lupa gunakan kabel cross untuk menghubungkan lan card pc1 dan lan card pc2.

Setelah semua selesai silakan anda klik tombol optimize, lalu Apply Changes, dan Exit.
Kemudian restart SpeedConnect, dan jalankan kembali lalu buka kembali internet accelerator. Sekarang koneksi anda sudah optimal.
